Treasurer
PAN
UK is looking for a Treasurer to join the Board of Trustees, and to strategically oversee the finances of the organisation, working closely with the staff responsible. This is a voluntary position.
PAN UK’s overall objectives are to eliminate the hazards of pesticides, reduce pesticide use, and to promote sustainable alternatives. There are 11 staff. Our projects work at UK, EU and International levels, and currently cover: UK agriculture and food policy, support for those whose health has been affected by pesticides, home, garden and amenity pesticides, the power of UK supermarkets and changes in European laws on pesticide residues, organic cotton, the African Stockpiles Programme, and working with African partners and regulators to raise awareness of international pesticide initiatives.
We also work to raise awareness of pesticides issues. This includes a widely-accessed website; publication of our quarterly journal, Pesticides News; dissemination of peer-reviewed research through Current Research Monitor and its related web-based research site www.pesticidelibrary.org;the supporter’s bulletin Greenfly; and a service to answer queries from the press and public. PAN UK also runs the annual Rachel Carson Memorial Lecture.
The current pattern for Board meetings is four times a year. Three meetings take place in London (usually at Development House) and the other is an ‘Awayday’ session to allow for more extended planning and discussions with the full staff and Board, from mid-Friday afternoon to early Saturday evening on the last weekend in September or early October.
There is a Management Subgroup to ensure that the Board receives sound reports and can focus on strategic financial matters rather than detail. The Treasurer would also be part of this Group, which meets 2-3 times a year for a one to two hour meeting.
