US$ 2 Billion's worth of chemicals are sprayed on world's cotton every year, many are classified "extremely or highly hazardous" by the World Health Organisation.

Organic Cotton in the UK
2005 market survey

PAN UK conducted the first extensive survey of the organic cotton market in the UK.

The survey revealed that the market grew by 25% in 2005, and its growth is expected to accelerate in 2006 and 2007. The sector grew significantly, with a 95% increase in retail shops, and many new brands and labels started to use organic cotton.
