Organic researchers at the Henry Doubleday Research
Association (HDRA) are calling on schools to manage their grounds
organically. “We are well aware of economic and time restraints of
schools, and will be carrying out an economic appraisal of organic
management techniques,” says Jackie Gear, Executive Director at HDRA.
‘Go Organic in School Grounds',
is a three year project funded by the government's Environmental Action
Fund. HDRA needs 12 schools to develop this project. They will assist each
‘test’ school to conduct an environmental audit of grounds maintenance
practice, and identify areas for change. The necessary information will be
provided to develop areas organically, with an information hotline for
back-up support. The project is open to any type and size of school in
England.
