The Pesticides Action Network (PAN) is
organising its Fourth International Meeting in Cuba in May 1997. It will
immediately follow the Third Organic Agriculture Conference organised by the
Cuban Association of Organic Agriculture (ACAO). In these two international
events PAN and ACAO expect to engage hundreds of people from around the world in
an exchange of information with each other and with Cubans guiding the country's
dramatic conversion to more ecologically sound agriculture. Participants are
invited to arrive in time to join the ACAO field trips and conference, from
12-16 May.
The PAN conference will provide the opportunity to strengthen
co-ordination and networking on pesticides, health and the environment, as well
as opportunities for promoting sustainable alternatives. The plenary sessions,
case studies and workshops will include the following topics: food security and
safety; agricultural biodiversity and genetic resources; ecological pest
management including sustainable and organic agriculture; women and gender
awareness in pesticides; and international conventions.
More details can be obtained from the PAN
Regional Coordinator for each region (see page 2).
