Mechanical weed
control:

![]() |
In the past the most common method of weed control has involved the use of chemicals. However, a mechanical, safe and non-toxic solution to weed control on the highway and paved areas has been developed in the form of a Danline Weed Ripper (see photo). It is fast-acting, versatile, cost effective and environmentally friendly. It removes large weed growth and also, in many cases, the growing medium on which they depend. This method of weed control can be carried out by one driver with minimal training. No special certification or protective clothing is required as would be the case for chemical application. It is also usual to have a mechanical sweeper operating with the Weed Ripper to leave the area clear and clean. Its design means that brush elements pull and remove weeds taking the majority of the roots and seeds during the cleaning action thus reducing the potential for re-rooting. Weed Ripper is new to the UK but has a proven track record in Scandinavia. It can be easily attached to a tractor and is powered from the PTO. It also has a siding and verging facility that cuts back overgrowth from roads and footpaths.
Also available is the Scarab hydrostatic sweeper which allows the debris caused by the ripping operations to be cleared and carried away.
