Collaboration—Pesticides
Trust [now PAN UK] and
Henry Doubleday Research Association
The
Pesticides Trust Local Authority Project which advises councils on pesticides
and alternatives, will be collaborating with the Henry Doubleday Research
Association (HDRA) Local Authority Membership Scheme which provides expert
information on composting, recycling and environmentally friendly horticultural
techniques.
HDRA is a leading association of organic gardeners and growers. It carries out
research into organic methods of horticulture and offers advice and products to
its members.
The HDRA Local Authority Membership Scheme was established at the beginning of
1993 and has attracted interest from councils who are under ever-increasing
pressure to adopt environmentally friendly work methods, and will also soon be
required by law to recycle 25% of all the waste collected from their residents.
A reduced reliance on toxic chemical pesticides and their replacement with safer
and more environmentally friendly alternatives goes hand in hand with other
environmentally sound practices such as composting, waste recycling and organic
horticulture. The collaboration between the Pesticides Trust and HDRA is
therefore a natural step forward for both organizations.

Trust [now PAN UK] Local Authority Project can be obtained from Mark Davis at The Pesticides
Trust or from Michael Walker at HDRA Tel: 0203 303517.
