New PAN UK resources

The List of Lists
PAN UK has produced The List of Lists - a catalogue of lists of pesticides identifying those which are associated with particularly harmful health and environmental impacts.
Hazard alerts such as the WHO Hazard Class 1a and 1b pesticides, the PAN Dirty Dozen and conventions on Prior Informed Consent (PIC) and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) have been compiled using thoroughly researched and validated data. Three of the Directives that regulate pesticides in the EU are explained (79/117, 76/464 and 91/414), with those pesticides either banned or restricted being listed. Pesticides are also grouped for their ability to cause cancer or disrupt the endocrine system.
This is a useful resource for anybody working in the pesticides field.

The List of Lists, 2001, 14pp, £5.00, available from PAN UK, see publications list.

Pest Management Notes
Two new Pest Management Notes have just been added to the Control of Pesticides and Integrated Pest Management series that was announced in PN52. These are:

  • Sustainable fruit production - a briefing providing a case study of smallholder fruit growers in Vietnam, and the danger of losing traditional practices that keep pest pressures low and reduce pesticide inputs.
  • Sustainable cocoa production systems - cocoa is a crop of smallholder farmers, but low prices and high input costs have had a major impact on production and incomes. This briefing looks at sustainable options for farmers.

These new Pest Management Notes will shortly be published online at:
